FROZEN SECTION


Prepares and performs frozen sections and gross operating room consultations with assigned pathologist
Assists pathologists with specimen photography and creating diagrams
Prepares frozen sections for stat pathology diagnosis
Cuts and stains specimens for frozen sections as needed
Check coding and billing and enter quality assurance data

AUTOPSY


Assists pathologists with autopsy procedures using proper techniques
Records data on autopsy specimens
Maintains digital files, ensuring a high standard of specimen photography
Completes postmortem examination reports

TISSUE SPECIMEN HANDLING/PROCESSING


Collects tissue specimens for chemical analysis and records pertinent findings
Identifies and prepares human surgical tissue specimens for gross procedures according to laboratory protocols
Prepares dissected tissue specimens for cytology examination
Treats tissue specimens in preparation for dissection
Dissects, examines, weighs, and photographs organs and specimens
Applies processing protocols on patient tissue specimens to ensure efficient and accurate diagnosis
Coordinates the acquisition of tissue specimens used for research purposes
Labels and stores gross tissue specimens according to CAP and HIPAA regulations

LABORATORY PROTOCOLS


Maintains pathology lab equipment and reagents
Utilizes lab software, microscope, as well as any other lab equipment according to the proper procedure and instruction
Performs quality control protocols and other necessary supplies
Trains new technicians on laboratory equipment and protocols whenever necessary

INTERPERSONAL SKILLS


Supervises and trains entry-level resident physicians in pathology methodology and procedures
Develops and maintains effective working relationships with others
Coordinates work of other, and may cross-work units to resolve problems

COMMUNICATION


Understands the chain of communications, who to contact, and when
Communicates sufficient information to keep the supervisor informed
